San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Official Information
Check outside of the terminals curbside on the Departure/Ticketing levels. They are likely to be the standard USPS drop boxes.
Also, there is mention of another box in Terminal 3 pre-security; however, I’m not sure if it’s an additional box or just a repeat. The photo of the mailbox appears to be inside or at least protected from the elements.
Nearest Post Office!
There is no official post office on airport property – but a Google search provided the nearest post office – an “air mail center”.
This is a good drop-off point if you’re returning a rental car, or if someone is driving you to the airport and can stop by. The other option is to pay to take a local bus (292 or 397 – check before boarding) to the McConnell Dr/W. Field bus stop and walk there. The bus stop to return to the terminals is across McConnell Dr. and opposite the United Cargo building.
Walking is not recommended, but it may be possible from the Rental Car station from AirTrain. This is a free option, but it may not be safe. Use your best judgement.
Note that this post office isn’t situated like Honolulu – you may need a three-hour layover, or two hours prior to your origin flight, if you’re attempting to go here without a car.
This post office is full service, open 11am-8pm on weekdays (to 6pm on Saturday), has a lobby open 24/7 with PO Box access, and has automated postal machines should you need to mail parcels. Note that anything that doesn’t meet First Class Parcel requirements (such as Priority Mail) may need to be mailed when the counter is open.
Fair warning: reviews posted on Google indicate that this is not a highly rated post office for customer service.
