Sometimes it’s nice to get a postcard with a postmark from a tropical island. HNL is a good place to drop off those postcards!

Official Information

HNL removed a lot of mailboxes. Their page on Postal Services mentions the only drop left is in Terminal 2 on the 1st floor near USO.

Sean submitted a few photos; I’ve included the one where the mail drop is. You might miss it if you don’t notice it.

Walkable Post Office!

There is no official post office on airport property – but a Google search provided the nearest post office on Aolele St. This is definitely walkable from the airport terminal if you have lots of time before your flight – or if you’re rushed and need to drop off something before returning a rental car.

From the airport terminals: head to the inter-island terminal. Get to the ground floor. Exit the building, turn left, and walk out from underneath the airport structure. Cross the street (be mindful of traffic!). You should see a building in front of you – that’s the post office facility. When in doubt, open the link above. I expect that it will take 10-15 minutes to travel there in each direction (probably 20-25 from the far terminals like Gate 9), so I wouldn’t head there on foot if you don’t have 2-3 hours before your flight out.

This post office is full service, open until 8pm on weekdays (4pm on Saturday), has a lobby open 24/7 with PO Box access, and has automated postal machines should you need to mail parcels. Note that anything that doesn’t meet First Class Parcel requirements (such as Priority Mail) may need to be mailed when the counter is open.

Fair warning: reviews posted on Google indicate that this is not a highly rated post office for customer service.
